Decription
A five-paragraph essay can tell you a student finished the reading. It can't always tell you they connected with it. This session explores project-based assessment for ELA, grounded in research on what actually deepens the bond between students, texts, and the world around them. You’ll learn how thoughtfully chosen tools, AI included, can support that work without doing the thinking for students.
As a result of this session, teachers will:
Explain the research connecting project-based assessment to deeper student understanding in ELA contexts.
Evaluate AI and other digital tools for their fit in supporting (not replacing) project-based ELA assessment design.
Design a project-based assessment for an ELA unit that reflects sound instructional design principles.
